The Buffalo State men's and women's track and field teams fought poor weather conditions to claim
seven first-place finishes at the Sparky Adams Invitational at Baldwin-Wallace University on Saturday.

In their penultimate competition before the SUNYAC Championships, the Bengals had to deal with
adverse weather and temperatures in the low 40s. Despite that, they still had numerous strong
performances by all of their athletes, including five first-place finishes for the women's team and two for
the men.

Assistant coach Dustin Dimit was very happy with the way the teams handled the weather.

"We're proud of the kids this week because the weather wasn't the best, and saw a bunch of kids set
their season-best marks or career-best marks, so they really stepped it up despite the conditions," Dimit
said.

On the women's side, freshman distance runner Kat McNamara set a personal best in the 5,000-meter
run, finishing fourth with a time of 19:42.20.

"That was the second time I've raced the 5K this season and I got a new personal record, so other than
freezing and being tired it was an awesome experience," McNamara said.

Senior sprinter Sasha Henry led the women, winning two events. She took first in both the 100-meter
(12.24) and 200-meter (25.20) dashes.

A pair of freshmen also contributed quality performances for the Bengals. Hurdler/high jumper
Treasure Glymph won the triple jump (10.93m) and sprinter Sasa Vann took first in the 400-meter dash
with a time of 59.35 seconds. Glymph also finished second in the high jump (1.55m) and fourth in the
100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 16.22 seconds.

Junior Heather Becker also tied for first in the pole vault (2.91m). Freshman sprinter Cypher McCloud
placed second in the long jump (5.41m) and senior Patrice Johnson finished second in the 100-meter
dash (12.60) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.28) to round out the top finishes for the women.

The men's team's two-first place finishes included a victory in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of
3:26.72. Junior Jimmy Campbell and freshmen Bumkoth Jiak, Cory Cox and Dallas Taylor led the team to
victory.

The other event the Bengals won was the long jump, with sophomore Rich Pete leaping a distance of
6.60 meters. He was also second in the triple jump (13.87m).

Other strong individual performances included junior Ron Major, who finished second in the high jump
(1.95m), Campbell, who placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.06) and junior Jared Quinn with a third-
place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:07.00).

Jiak had a sore hip at the invitational and he hopes to be back at full health when the Bengals compete
at Hillsdale College this weekend. The freshman thinks that the teams will have another strong
performance there, regardless.

"I think we will place well," Jiak said. "We have everybody back, so we'll do well."

The Bengals will compete in the Hillsdale College GINA Relays in Hillsdale, Mich. this weekend. The event
will give them one last chance to fine-tune themselves for the SUNYACs May 3 and 4.
